God’s Living Word – James 4:8, NKJV

“Draw near to God and He will draw near to you.”

Boomers

Baby Boomers are relocating in record numbers, selling houses, buying new ones, and moving to new areas. It’s not for job advancement or adventure; the Boomers have already done that. Now they are relocating to be closer to children and grandchildren during retirement years. Families need to be together. Grandparents, when possible, need to be close to their grandkids. Recent surveys show that six out of every ten Boomers will relocate during retirement.

In the same way, when we love the Lord, we want to move closer to Him. James tells us to draw near to God, and He will draw near to us. Interestingly, that verse doesn’t tell us how to do it, but that’s where Deuteronomy 4:7 comes in. Moses declared: “Our God is near us whenever we pray to Him” (NIV).

Prayer is the act by which we draw near to God, enjoying His presence, communing with Him in sweet fellowship. When you pray, you’re not just reciting a formula or reviewing prayer requests like a shopping list. You are coming into the presence of a King for the purpose of fellowship and nearness. As you draw near to God, He will draw near to you.
